Users of the Solana ecosystem will benefit from at least two major airdrops in January, distributing hundreds of millions of tokens to eligible users. The first airdrop planned for the New Year will come from Solana layer-2 gaming network Sonic, which will airdrop 7% of its native SONIC token supply to users on January 7th. The other will come from Jupiter, the company behind the JUP coin project. Apart from the Solana ecosystem, important airdrops will take place in 6 altcoin projects. Here are the details
Sonic to give away 2.4 million tokens
According to a post published on January 1 on X, Sonic wrote that only 15% of the total supply of 2.4 billion SONIC tokens will be available for trading on airdrop day. About 8% of the token will be pre-allocated to “early backers”, while 7% will be airdropped to early claimants. Notably, the only way to qualify for the SONIC airdrop was to participate via the social media platform TikTok. Like Telegram mini-games, Sonic built the SonicX game natively within TikTok, opting to reward those users directly. Sonic raised $2024 million in a Series A funding round in June 12. In addition, the protocol partnered with Solana staking layer Solayer, which in November surpassed $50 million worth of staked SOL in its delegation pool.
JUP coin prepares for $625 million “JUPuary” airdrop
Jupiter, a decentralized exchange aggregator in Solana, is preparing to airdrop approximately $625 million worth of native JUP (JUP) tokens to eligible users in January. In a post to X on December 27, Jupiter Uplink shared that 625 million JUP tokens worth $700 million at current prices will be distributed to users. Jupiter shared that a total of approximately 2.3 million wallet addresses will be eligible for the “JUPuary” airdrop, with a number of different qualifying actions that will allow users to earn a greater amount of JUP.
Jupiter has opted to distribute tokens through a staggered distribution for users with a high volume of trading activity on the exchange. Users with a trading volume of more than $800 will receive 50 JUP, while users who reach a trading volume of $14 million will receive 20,000 JUP tokens. In addition, Jupiter users who interact with any of the perpetual futures, dollar-cost averaging (DCA) or limit order features will also receive additional JUP coins. The Jupiter and Sonic airdrops are the second and third airdrops to Solana in the past month, while the Pudgy Penguins airdrop distributed over $1 billion in PENGU tokens to eligible users on Solana (mostly Pudgy Penguins owners).
What are the other airdrops coming in January?
Apart from those in the Solana ecosystem, the following airdrops are also noteworthy in the first month of 2025:
- Sundog (SUNDOG): On January 3, 2025, SUNDOG tokens will be distributed to users who connect their wallets via Trust Wallet.
Chromia (CHR): On January 15, 2025, stakers of native $CHR tokens will have the opportunity to participate in the @colorpool_xyz airdrop snapshot.
On January 15, 2025, $DRV will launch with 5% of the supply allocated to $sENA stakers.
OpSec (OPSEC): From December 11, 2024 to January 20, 2025, a random snapshot window will open for $OPSEC holders.
SuperRare (RARE): From December 19, 2024 to February 6, 2025, the “Season III $RARE” airdrop will be active.
Eigenlayer (EIGEN): From December 20, 2024 to February 20, 2025, ReALT stakers can claim EIGEN tokens from Eigenlayer’s 1 million token giveaway.
