During Donald Trump’s first term as president, several cabinet members were known to be significant cryptocurrency investors. In this new presidential era, special selections have been made, particularly for intelligence and financial management roles. The financial disclosures of these nominees reveal their interests and investments in the cryptocurrency world. Here are the details:

Sean Duffy: The Biggest Bitcoin Holder

Sean Duffy, Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Transportation and a former Congressman from Wisconsin, reportedly holds between $500,000 and $1 million in Bitcoin in his personal wallet, according to his financial disclosures. He has also invested $50,000 to $100,000 in Fidelity’s Bitcoin ETF.

Additionally, Duffy has holdings in altcoins like Solana, Litecoin, and Lido Staked Ether. His total crypto portfolio is valued between $570,000 and $1.2 million. Duffy has also served as an advisor to Robinhood, supporting the platform’s crypto trading initiatives.

Scott Bessent: Nominee for Secretary of the Treasury

Scott Bessent, Trump’s nominee for Secretary of the Treasury, is the founder of Key Square Group, a hedge fund operating in South Carolina and New York. According to his financial disclosures, Bessent has invested between $250,000 and $500,000 in BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF.

Bessent has openly expressed his interest in cryptocurrency and stated that he would liquidate his Bitcoin investments if confirmed, citing ethical obligations under his contractual commitments.

John Ratcliffe: CIA Director Nominee

John Ratcliffe, a former Congressman from Texas, previously served as Director of National Intelligence. While Ratcliffe does not hold significant crypto assets, he is no stranger to the crypto sphere. In 2023, he served on the advisory board of Paradigm, a prominent crypto venture capital firm, earning $160,000 in consulting fees. He plans to step down from this role upon confirmation.

Tulsi Gabbard: Championing Crypto Diversity

Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic Congresswoman from Hawaii who joined the Republican Party in 2024, has secured Trump’s endorsement and is now nominated for the position of Director of National Intelligence. Gabbard stands out with her diversified crypto investments.

Her financial disclosure shows that she holds between $15,000 and $50,000 worth of Bitcoin in a Crypto.com wallet, with an equal amount invested in Bitwise’s Bitcoin ETF. She also holds Solana, Cronos, and Ether in her portfolio, which is valued between $31,000 and $115,000. Gabbard has stated her intention to divest these assets upon confirmation.

Trump’s cabinet draws attention not only for its political capabilities but also for its active involvement in the cryptocurrency world. This underscores both the importance of integrating traditional finance with crypto and the administration’s approach to emerging technologies. While these cabinet members’ decisions to liquidate their crypto holdings aim to prevent conflicts of interest, how these investments will influence policy remains an open question.
